Over the past two years, I have undergone one of the most intense periods of transformation in my life. I have faced fears I didn’t even realize were controlling me. Fear of failure. Fear of loss. Fear of judgment. Fear of uncertainty. Fear of not having enough. Fear of trusting myself. Again and again, life placed me in situations where I was asked to choose courage over comfort and faith over fear.
The process has not been easy, and I spent many dark nights distraught and desired to quit.
There were moments when I questioned everything. There were moments when the path disappeared beneath my feet and the future seemed impossible to see. Yet each challenge carried within it a lesson. Each obstacle revealed a hidden strength. Each setback forced me to look deeper within myself and ask who I truly was beyond my titles, accomplishments, possessions, and circumstances.
What I discovered is that our greatest transformations often occur when we stop running from our fears and begin listening to what they are trying to teach us.
Today, I understand that Master Your Story is not about rewriting the past. It is about embracing every chapter of our lives and recognizing that even the painful moments contain wisdom. It is about realizing that our stories are not happening to us – they are happening for us. Every experience offers an opportunity to grow, evolve, and become more fully ourselves.
This realization has become one of the foundational principles behind Arete Grows.
Arete Grows is more than a place, a project, or an organization. It is the physical manifestation of a belief that has been growing within me for years: that healing happens in community, creativity is sacred, nature restores us, and every human being carries gifts that deserve to be nurtured and shared.
At its heart, Arete Grows is built upon the understanding that we are not separate from one another.
We are connected.
Every act of kindness ripples outward. Every story shared has the power to heal another. Every time we choose compassion over judgment, understanding over division, and love over fear, we strengthen the invisible threads that bind us together.
I have come to believe that beneath all our differences, there is only one truth:
We are one love.
We are expressions of the same universal spirit, walking different paths but ultimately moving toward the same destination – a deeper understanding of ourselves and our connection to one another.
The world often teaches us to focus on what separates us. Arete Grows seeks to remind us of what unites us.
It is a place where art, nature, healing, education, service, and community can come together. A place where veterans, survivors, artists, seekers, leaders, and dreamers can gather and remember that they belong. A place where people can reconnect with their authentic selves and discover that their stories matter.
Because every person’s story matters.
Every life carries wisdom.
Every experience has meaning.
And every human being has the capacity to contribute something beautiful to this world.
When I look back to 2016, I no longer see a series of disconnected events. I see a divine unfolding. I see a path that was guiding me toward a greater understanding of purpose, service, and love.
The woman who began this journey could never have imagined where it would lead.
But I am grateful for every step.
Grateful for every lesson.
Grateful for every fear I was asked to overcome.
Grateful for all the people along the way.
Because each experience has helped me become more fully myself.
And perhaps that is the greatest lesson of all: our stories are not simply about us.
They are gifts we are meant to share.
When we have the courage to embrace our truth, we give others permission to embrace theirs. When we heal ourselves, we help heal the collective. When we choose love, we strengthen the fabric that connects us all.
My journey continues, as does the journey of Arete Grows.
But today, I move forward with a deeper understanding than ever before:
We are connected.
We belong to one another.
We are one love.
And together, we grow.
